Here are three things you may want to ask your attorney before the purchase or sale of your home:
1. How much experience do you have?
The amount of experience your attorney has may or may not matter, depending on your property. If your home or property has complexities, a more experienced attorney may be better equipped to handle your sale. Note that the more experience an attorney has the more expensive their services may be. If you’re familiar with real estate transactions, a more affordable, semi-less experienced attorney may be the best option for you.
2. How much do you charge?
How much your attorney charges should not come as a shock to you. Knowing how much your attorney will charge helps you budget the cost. Most attorneys charge between $150 – $450 per hour. You may be able to negotiate with your attorney if you discuss the cost right away. Keep in mind that attorneys often charge based on their experience and the complexity of your case.
3. Do you work alone?
Ask your attorney if they have junior attorneys or legal aids that handle some of the casework. If you don’t want anyone else working on your case, it is important to tell your attorney immediately. Additionally, some attorneys work with real estate agents or property experts that may provide an added benefit to you.
